Wow we experienced that.There are farming lands, shops, ATM's, different vendors selling many things around. We visited Dal Lake in Oct-22. Experienced fall season(autumn) and there was a snow fall 2/3 days before.We stayed there in HB Richards Green. Bang opposite to Gate No 5. Stay and food was good.

When in Srinagar, I got to experience the soothing Shikara Ride at Dal Lake. This hillside lake is home to the wonderfully carved wooden houseboats and colorful Shikaras (the small wooden carved boats) casually commuting through the scenic peaks of the Pir Panjal Mountains. It is spread across 22 square kilometers and its beauty kept growing as my Shikarawala rowed my Shikara deeper and deeper into its placid water flow!Shikaras are extensively used to commute back and forth from the houseboats, for daily traveling, or for boating tours. They are very well maintained, beautifully decorated, and rowed by professionals who are well aware of the different aspects of Dal Lake, which makes the Shikara Rides even more exciting and interesting. Staying rooted in their old charm, the swift movement of a Shikara provided me with a unique way to experience the eternal beauty of Kashmir, and must say, they certainly add to the beauty of Dal Lake with their colorful presence!The duration of the Shikara Ride at Dal Lake in Kashmir ranges from 1 hour to 4 hours, the Shikarawalas at one of the ghats surrounding the lake guided me regarding the same which helped me in choosing the ride as per my convenience. However, the pricing here is dynamic so the better your bargaining skills, the better chances of you bagging a worthy deal!It was an experience of a lifetime for me as I got wooed by scenic vistas of the Zabarwan Range and the deepness of the calming Dal Lake. The vibrations in the water formed by the rowing of Shikarawala were an equally visual treat. The mesmerizing scene of surrounding snowy mountains looked even more beautiful at the sunset which reflected in the gleaming water of the lake.The Shikara ride is incomplete without stopping at Meena Bazaar, a lively lake market. A must visit spot if you are in Srinagar. Known for house boat stay, it has a lot more to offer. Calm, serene Lake water with regular boats (shikara) ferrying people. We were personally amazed Floating market, how they have everything available on water. From grocery to clothing, you hope on to shikara and buy what you need. Locals were very welcoming and no unnecessary push to sell their stuff.

Beautiful lake, amazing view, great night view, and excellent climate. The shikara ride was completely worth through the floating market. Loved every minute of it.But we got a really, really bad stay, was unfortunate but still enjoyed the stay because of the lake love.The boat we stayed on was Athena. It was great, spacious, good food. Until we really started having trouble. It was full of dust. Heavy dust that we immediately started sneezing and caught cold. Then I was happy that the food was good and then during breakfast, before checkout we got an omelette with cockroach in it !! I mean, why !!! The boat was never getting cleaned. That we knew.

There is much commercial activity going along like houseboat stays, water plant harvesting, fishing, floating markets and more. During extreme winter months, entire lake will be frozen but then it's the time for winter sports and related activities. It's just like a lifeline for many people.It's really a large lake complete with 3 tiny islands and some landmarks, and the most commendable part is its Idyllic setting. It's covered in most sides by majestic mountains, and I can only imagine the spectacular views it has to offer during winter months when there is snow around.So instead of the regular "Must Visit Tag ", I will recommend it with a "MUST MULTIPLE VISIT LOCATION " so that you can enjoy its beauty completely.

Dal lake is one of the best places to visit if you are in Kashmir. We stayed at the house boat. One of the best experiences. Sikara Ride was very much enjoyable. But people are throwing a lot of plastics in the lake. It shouldn’t be. The water of the lake is green as water can't pass by. And make sure the room heaters if you want to stay at the house boat. At night, colds feel like you are in the freezer.

There are thousands of houseboats in the lake and a floating market. Just avoid food from the open vendors and restaurants on the lake.

Timeless Dal Lake!! But actually I saw it in 1981 and then again now in 2024 ... Guess what, the areas near the boulevard are quiet dirty now. To experience the pristine side of Dal lake go to the other side which is full of lotus ponds and lily pads. I took a shikara from Nishat garden and came to Ghat no. 13. Do something similar and you will get to see the less touristy, more pristine, more rural and natural side of the lake with its original inhabitants of the many birds too. Btw, doing this kind of a trip will cost you about 4-5k Rs. But be prepared to bargain hard. They first asked for 9k from me which we settled for 3k!!

Visited in June 2024. A wonderful lake with floating small hotels (houseboats), mini restaurants and different kinds of shops. The shikara ride syndicate takes official rate only for near area. For total lake visit with shops, must need to take their other rates. Need to bargain a lot. I was able to go down up to 50%. Try to cover both day & night times for a wonderful experience.

This allows you to bargain, which can get you a much better deal—sometimes cheaper than a hotel stay. If possible, choose the last room on the houseboat; these rooms tend to be more spacious and offer better views.**Environmental Concerns:**However, it’s important to note that the beauty of Dal Lake is marred by some environmental issues. Unfortunately, some houseboat owners contribute to the pollution by directly discharging waste into the lake. Additionally, littering by both locals and tourists has led to certain areas of the lake becoming quite dirty. Dal lake is a must visit site in Srinagar. I have stayed on a houseboat for 2 days. It was a wonderful experience. They pick you up from the ghat in small boats or shikaras and drop you off at the houseboat. Small scale shopkeepers come on boats for selling their native products and souvenirs. At night. The beauty of the lake is very captivating. A Shikara ride at night soothes our mind and rejuvenates our body.

Nice serene lake. Shikara ride is a great experience to have. Floating market has lots of shops around as well as boats selling stuff. High density of shikaras during peak season in around floating market. Water is not very clean but okay. Do bargain when you hire a Shikara as no one follows government scheduled rates.

The lake has thousands of houseboats and a floating market.

The lake itself is beautiful and is a source of income to the locals by shikara ride. Morning and night ride experience is little different as there will be lots of lighting in the night. They do grow vegetables during the season. There is a market which is also on the lake and the boat takes you there be careful about things you purchase and their costs.

Everyone who goes to Kashmir wants to do a shikara ride in dal lake. I was not different, but it pains me to say that the lake has lost its beauty. The water was dirty although government is trying hard to clean it. The sight of shikaras and house boats on one side and mountain on the other is not doubt breath taking.

This is definitely heaven on earth. The place was so scenic 👌 it's also cheap ride if you go with group we pay 500rs each. You can bargain for lower price than us. It take more than 1 hour for all points to cover and three spot where you can get out of your shikara. After G20 success this become even more busy than ever as per shikara guy so that's cool. Although floating makret here is expensive way too expensive.

An amazing place for relaxing Shikara ride as well as just for a stroll on adjoining road. Consider going there during day (afternoon/evening) as well as night time, as it had very different vibe and view to offer. And yes, do not miss out on buying some souvenirs from the road-side market that they set up during evening hours.

Dal Lake unfortunately suffers from poor water quality. The experience is marred by excessive negotiation for shikara rides and persistent hawkers that block the scenic views. Additionally, the broken and dirty houseboats detract from the overall enjoyment. Not recommended to visit in summer for a relaxing or scenic visit.

Very beautiful lake! You must bargain for boating. They asked us 4500 for 3 person but we bargained to them with 1500 for 3 persons. They will show the famous points of lake and in the middle you can enjoy the food and other things. Must try the Kawa

Nice place. Need to keep clean. We are 9 members group came to during August period. We made rooms in this lake. Pretty good hospitality. Boat ride was so good. The view of mountains from the lake was awesome.... Must visit place in Srinagar J&K. We spent a day here. Hotels light, road side foods all are colorful. Bit busy area....1. Visit during weekdays it will be better.2. Keep your thinks carefully.3. Be safe with your luggages.

Everyone knows about it. It's the growing weed in the lake that bothers me. I can't see this water body dying and administration is least bothered about it. We the people have turned sucha blessing into a garbage dump. Yeah you can enjoy the tasty food and hotels on the boulevard
